Timothy Mendoza, a University of Wyoming rugby alum and recent graduate of the University, will be traveling to Sydney, Australia mid-March to play rugby for Waverly Rugby Club. (Read more about Waverly rugby club  here)

Tim has shown his ability to play at the very highest level of rugby.  He was a standout 8-man, center and National Championship 7’s captain of UW Men’s Rugby Club. After graduating from UW he moved to Southern California and earned a starting spot for Belmont Shore Rugby Club in Los Angeles CA. Belmont Shore finished 4th in the recently completed Cal Cup with a loss to San Francisco Golden Gate. (Read more about Tim and Belmont Shore’s rugby matches  here)

Tim, from Big Horn Wyoming, is typical of the Wyoming players who have succeeded at the next level of rugby (well known examples being Travis Kelsey, Brad Gifford, Danny Fitch, Leif Gibson, Josh Masek and Cody Jerabek).  He is tough, dedicated, and incredibly hard working.  Given the chance to craft his rugby skills in a high performance setting, we believe Tim has a great chance of making it to the next level and developing a serious rugby career.  As part of that effort, he intends to play rugby in Australia this season so that he can compete at a high level, increase his skills and build his profile in the US rugby community.

Tim’s efforts in forging this development path will be important for inspiring young players around Wyoming, will enhance UW’s ability to recruit new players to the clubs, and build awareness of Wyoming Rugby overall.

As Wyoming Rugby grows and prospers, we hope for more opportunities for player growth like this one. Wyoming Rugby has established a rugby student athlete exchange program between the University of Wyoming and universities in Brisbane, Australia. The exchange program allows Australian and Wyoming students to study and play at partner universities for up to a year.  Wyoming players also have an option to join the University of Queensland rugby academy. The program also welcomes non-students that can play for clubs in either region.

Timothy needs your help raising $2,200 to underwrite cost or else he will not be able to go.  Waverly Rugby Club has lined up a job for Tim once he gets to Sydney.  But Tim needs help with advance funds to pay for a working visa and air ticket.
